Programs
PLEASE READ THROUGH ALL DESCRIPTION NOTES PRIOR TO REGISTRATION:
Register for a one-hour adaptive kayaking lesson designed for individuals with disabilities, ages 8 and older. No prior kayaking experience is required. All adaptive equipment and modifications are provided to ensure a safe, supportive, and enjoyable experience. Multiple dates and locations are available.
Important Information:
1. Kayaks have a maximum weight capacity of 225 pounds, and all equipment is age-rated for participants ages 8 and up.
2. Due to high demand, a $10 donation is required to reserve a spot in this program. If the donation presents a barrier, please contact the Rec-Connect Team at rec-it@dnemichigan.org
3. DNEM programs are available to residents of DNEM service counties: Macomb, Oakland, St. Clair, Lapeer, Sanilac, Tuscola, and Huron. If you reside outside of these counties, please contact DNEM at rec-it@dnemichigan.org to explore alternative options.
4. A reminder email will be sent several days prior to each kayak clinic. If you are unable to attend, please notify us in advance. Failure to cancel a reserved spot may result in placement on a waitlist for future DNEM programs.
5. Please do not register as a parent, therapist, or caregiver, as program spaces are reserved for participants with disabilities. If you would like to kayak alongside a participant, please email your request to rec-it@dnemichigan.org. If we have enough kayaks available after participants have been accommodated, we will be happy to include you.
6. If a participant requires personal care or additional support, we kindly ask that a parent, caregiver, or support staff member remain on site during the adaptive recreation program. Thank you for helping us create a safe and supportive experience for everyone.
